Argaty Red Kites

Lovely 3 hours spent at Argaty Red Kites, Doune on Monday 27 January 2025. I was in the Photography Hide, and next time I will make use of the outside platform just next to this hide too. Thanks Lynn for making me feel so welcome and chatting cameras and photography!

Couldn't recommend this place more. Niall (we think his name was) who led the feeding was so informative and incredibly lovely. Very welcoming and facilties very clean. The whole experience was one I won't be forgetting for a long time. The red kites were amazing to watch, some beautiful smaller birds all around as well. Even got to get a glimpse of a Heron. The visitor centre had some lovely displays, lots of information and farming maps which we found really useful. Will definitely be back.

We had a great time watching the Red Kites yesterday. Right from our 1st call to Lynn we couldn't have done it without her immediate kind offer of taking my husband in the buggy directly from the car park up to the hide & taking him back because of his mobility issues. Olly was our driver/guide & he was superb-couldn't have been more helpful, friendly, polite & understanding. When we did join other people in the hide he was so informative & was able to answer everyone's questions. A super experience all round. Highly recommended.

Came here to watch the red Kites daily feed. The place was friendly and well organised. The member of staff joined us in the hide, he was clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about the wildlife which made the experience even more enjoyable. We saw tons of red kites which were a joy to watch and excellent for some wildlife photography! Definitely well worth the time and money.

We turned up without booking and after the main feeding time, but were met by one of the rangers who was really helpful and explained a lot about the red kites. We went up to the hide and spent an hour just watching the kites, and the small birds on the bird feeder nearby. Could have stated for hours! The exhibition is really helpful too. A brilliant day, thanks so much to the ranger who made us so welcome.

I hired the studio hide that Argaty Red Kite Centre owns. Plentiful red squirrels to practice taking action photos with, jays, nuthatches, woodpecker etc. Highlight of the morning, though, was a ‘pinch me’ moment when a deer wandered near the hide and proceeded to lie down for a rest, without realizing I was there. Spent half an hour observing and secretly photographing her. What a beauty! Truly magical.

Having seen the signs to Argaty Kites for many years, I finally decided to visit. I wasn't disappointed when over a period of about 45 minutes, a constant influx of red Kites appeared once food had been put out for them. With their beautiful colouring, they are lovely birds to watch, glide, dive, twist, and turn. They are quite a challenge to photograph with their constant turn of speed. I had more success clicking a more sedate yellow hammer under the nut feeder 😄

Despite the heavy rain my wife and I loved our visit today to Argaty Red kites. We saw loads of kites swooping down for the food and they kept on coming. It was also special to see a red squirrel and various birds on the feeders including yellowhammers, great spotted woodpecker and brambling.
